The assessments made in 2019 found relatively poor performance of the cooperatives in terms of business management, financial management and governance. VCDP considers agriculture producer organizations (particularly cooperatives, market committees) as a most potential business vehicle to upscale the local value chain and reduces the inefficiencies in existing market systems, so has been supporting the identified cooperatives and market centres to perform them as the ‘business hub’ to provide a wide range of business development services for their member producers.įor the better market linkage at local level, the project has been supporting 18 cooperatives and 14 market centres to strengthen the existing facilities, equip with better market and price information systems, and build their managerial capacities. Better market linkage is one of the major outcomes of the project together along with improved agricultural productivity and reduced post-harvest losses.
